Appendix A

What I considered the best part of reading Appendix A was learning how the Internet came to be. I heard from my father that it started with the government, but reading more of the details about why it started was interesting to me. Learning how it branched from the government to schools in a scholarly manner was interesting as well and, to me, makes sense. Maybe it is one of those things where it seems obvious only after that such a thing would branch out like that. Reading about how the different interconnecting networks came together to make the Internet was something that I enjoyed reading, however.

Reading about the different cable types did explain something to me. Recently, we changed the internet at my home to a new company. And the company uses fiber-optic cables. I did not understand the difference between fiber-optic cables and other cables. So, learning about fiber-optic cables and how light and glass is used to transfer signals has made it click in my mind why those ones tend to be talked about favorably. I did notice that the internet at my house is rather nice, I did realize that when I first got it at least.
