Summary

Module 7

Module 7 of the book was about wireless connectivity to devices and security regarding those connections. It was an interesting read for me as it gave a lot of answers to questions that I had but never thought to look up. Those questions being about what WEP and WPA security is in routers. I tend to be the person in my family who sets up the routers and the passwords for them, though I’ve only ever done the basics according to what’s shown in the book. I am glad that I would, at least, change the default passwords for the routers. I never knew that you can have it so they don’t broadcast their SSID. It also answered the question about what a MAC address was, so I don’t need to ask myself about that when I look at my phone information anymore.

The topic of wireless connections has been something that I’ve done minimal research into before. I do know that it can be dangerous to connect to the wi-fi of any coffee shop that you visit and I used to just stick with my data because of it. However, I didn’t know that there can be issues involving Bluetooth. Given I’ve seen quite a few new cars that can connect to people’s phones through Bluetooth, it makes me wonder if they are vulnerable to the security threats mentioned in the text or others.
